Wu Tang Clan has released a single in preparation for the release of their new album. The song is called “Lesson Learn’d” and just after one minute into the track, you can hear the line: “My price hikin’ like the pills Martin Shkreli sells.”
The widely-hated ‘Pharma Bro’ Martin Shkreli is currently sitting behind bars in a NYC jail, awaiting sentencing, after a jury found him guilty of securities fraud (his $5 million bail was revoked after he offered, via Facebook, a $5,000 reward to whomever provides him with Hillary Clinton’s hair). Shkreli’s attorneys are working to finalize the sale of his exclusive copy of Wu Tang Clan’s album: “Once Upon a Time in Shaolin.” This is the only hardcopy of the album ever released by the legendary rap group, consisting of members such as Method Man, Ghostface Killah, and Raekwon. The public has only heard the introduction along with the two songs that follow when Shkreli leaked those parts after Donald Trump was elected President.
Shkreli first obtained the album at an auction in 2015, where he placed the winning bid of $2 million. Shkreli’s attorney, Scott Vernick, has revealed that in a recent Ebay auction, the highest bid was $1 million, but that the money has not been wired yet. Other than the fact that Shkreli is going to lose more than a million dollars on this potential sale, the legality of such a sale is also in question. The sole copy of the album allegedly contains several restrictions; it cannot be given away for free, it cannot be played for the public, and it cannot be commercially sold until 2103. Despite these allegations, Shkreli has assured potential buyers that he will provide the necessary legal documents to serious bidders.
Wu Tang Clan’s upcoming album, “Wu Tang: The Saga Continues,” will be released on October 13, 2017.
