One of the most dangerous and underrated roles in TV and film is that of a stuntman. There have been many instances of a stuntman being seriously injured (or even dying) while filming was taking place. Von Beltz was only 24 when she was Farrah Fawcett’s stunt double, and when she being a quadriplegic after an accident during filming. A.J. Bakunas died in relation to complications from a stunt accident while doing a stunt for actor George Kennedy. Vin Diesel’s stunt double, Harry L. O’Connor was also killed during the making of a film. Daniel Radcliffe’s stunt double in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows became paralyzed from the waist down during a stunt mishap. Many of these occurrences end with the stuntman taking legal action against production or executives.
More recently Steve de Castro, a stunt man for the new USA’s series Shooter, was injured when he was pinned under an SUV driven by actor Tom Sizemore. This particular stuntman has decided to sue the actor that injured him. Castro has filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles County Superior Court. The basis for the lawsuit is that Sizemore became intoxicated on set when he knew he was going to be operating a motor vehicle that day. The extent of Castor’s injuries is unknown, but the claims range from negligence, batter, assault, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
