Kim Kardashian West Sues Website for Libel

Kim Kardashian West experienced a life changing event on October 3, 2016 when she was robbed at gunpoint in Paris. Five individuals, disguised as police officers, went to the building where she was staying and two of them gained access to her room and robbed her. It was said that the thieves took, at least, one ring worth $4 million and a jewelry box containing another $6 million. After leaving Paris, hours after the robbery, MediaTakeOut.com stated that she faked the robbery and lied about the assault.

Kim Kardashian West sued MediaTakeOut.com for libel on October 11th stating she was wrongly portrayed as a liar and thief after she was attacked in Paris. The website’s owner, Fred Mwangaguhunga, did not return any calls regarding the article that was posted on his website. The lawsuit stated that the website lacked factual support when it published articles stating she was a liar and a thief and alleged that she faked the robbery, lied about the violent assault and filed a fraudulent claim with her insurance company to cheat her carrier out of millions of dollars. The lawsuit said the “malicious publication of the articles, which paint the victim of a serious crime as a criminal herself, is libelous.”

Before filing suit,  Kim Kardashian West asked the website to publish a retraction and apology article for calling her a liar and a criminal. The website ignored her request and left her with no other option but to sue the website, MediaTakeOut.com, for libel. Kayne West, her husband, after this traumatic event, decided to cancel his New York concert for a family emergency. The Kardashian family is taking this matter extremely serious and feels that their family needs more security in order to prevent this crime from ever happening again.
